University of Oulu
The University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary research university, the 2nd largest university in Finland. The focus areas of the university are Biotechnology, Information Technology and Wireless Communication, and Northern and Environmental Issues. These areas are directly linked to the location and the features of the Oulu region.
Six faculties and their departments enable diversified studies based on multifaceted research. 17,000 students and over 3,000 staff members form a vibrant academic community of which the university's over 1,000 international exchange and degree students are an integral part. The university confers Bachelor's, Master's, licentiate and doctoral degrees among which there are nine international Master's programmes of different disciplines taught in English.
The University of Oulu maintains a close and extensive co-operation with industry and commerce, and has broad connections with hundreds of international research and educational institutions. Founded in 1958, the University of Oulu has grown quickly, establishing itself as one of the leading universities in Finland. On an international level, the University of Oulu is ranked among the top 500 universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities done by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
