Well connected

Oulu (65.01° N, 25.28° E) is located on the Northern part of the Baltic Sea and on the mouth of the Oulu River. The city has always been the centre of Northern Finland and a gateway to the North between East and West. Oulu is only a one hour drive from the Swedish border; Russia and attractive Lapland being reached within a few hours. The distance between Oulu and Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is about 600 km.

The transportation connections are excellent, regardless of the means of transport or direction. All main roads meet in Oulu. The flight to Helsinki takes about an hour and by rail you can reach the capital in six hours. As a student, you travel half price on trains and long haul buses. Oulu airport is the second busiest in Finland, having 15 daily flights to Helsinki by Finnair and Blue1. In addition, you can fly direct from Oulu to Riga (Latvia) and Tampere (Finland).

And it is not only the good transportation connections that keep you well connected. Free Internet connections are available at the campus areas and in the city centre. And when in the city, everything is nearby and can be reached by walking, bicycling or by using the local and student-friendly public transportation. Bicycling is the most popular means of transport for students - all year round.
