Town of Raahe

Would you like to have a student accommodation on the sea shore, just next to the town centre? Raahe is located 75 kilometres southwest of Oulu on a beautiful sea shore with many islands. It is a vivid town with 23,000 inhabitants, the main industries being steel and the high tech industry.

Raahe has long traditions as an educational town offering a high level of education through its many schools. Its advantage as an educational city is close co-operation between the schools and technology and business. Raahe is the hub of "Softpolis", a development centre for hi-tech companies, benefitting the city by bringing new employment.

Raahe is a great place for sports and other activities from horseback riding, sailing and cross-country skiing to different ball games. The cultural life is varied through festivals, concerts and lately modernised cinema.

School of Engineering, Raahe campus

Raahe campus of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences hosts over 700 students in five degree programmes. The international Degree Programme in Information Technology is carried out in Raahe. As an advantage of a small educational unit, both the students and the staff have a strong feeling of community. The teaching is interactive as well as flexible and there is a continuous will to develop all the educational activities.

The idyllic campus area of Raahe successfully combines both traditional and modern architecture. The modern computer classrooms, laboratories and the library are equipped with the latest technology and on-line services. The oldest buildings are protected because of their historical value. The student dormitories on the cosy campus include Internet access.
